Malawi Government plans to enforce the law and remove children who beg on the streets.

In her ministerial statement delivered in Parliament on Monday, Minister of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare Patricia Kaliati said government was aware that children with disabilities were being used by individuals who were not even their parents to beg on the roadside in cities.

“My ministry will create awareness for parents of children with disabilities to send them to school. There is too much exploitation of these children; the law will take its course,” she said.

She added that the Child Justice and Protection Act would be enforced and the ministry would have in-house lawyers to try cases of abuse and gender-based violence.
